The Online Breakout Challenge

The Online Breakout Challenge is a virtual social networking activity for eResearch NZ attendees. Hosted through the conference platform and based on the popular escape room challenges, it involves an hour-long collection of virtual tasks, where teams have the chance to solve puzzles, tackle questions and answer riddles.
Starting in a ‘locked office’, teams are required to work their way through a series of tasks, which are displayed on interactive games screens, earning points as they go, on a mission to ‘breakout’ within the time limit. This session is a great way to challenge your problem-solving skills, have some fun, and get to know your fellow eResearch NZ delegates!

Event details:

Thursday the 10th of February 12.30pm – 1.30pm

DAY 1

Wednesday 09 February

1:15 – 2:00 pm – Speed Networking

Mix and mingle with fellow eResearch NZ attendees in this fun and facilitated networking session. Using Zoom breakout rooms, we’ll sort you into small groups with some ice breaker topics to get conversations started. The “speed” part of it kicks in when we shuffle the mix of the groups after ~10 minutes. We’ll aim to do two or three shuffles over the course of the session so that you get to connect with as many different people as possible in the time we’ve got.

1:15 – 2:00 pm – Special Student Networking Session

This is a special networking session to connect students with eResearch community members who can share insights and experience from their years working within the ecosystem. Using Zoom breakout groups, students will have a chance to :

  • Get to know other researchers and students in the community

  • Learn more about the sector and what “eResearch” means to different people

  • Ask questions about career paths, emerging trends, communities of practice, and any other hot topics that come to mind!

If you’re a newcomer to the conference, this is a great session to learn more about the event and the eResearch community at large.

4:50  – 5:30 pm — End-of-day Networking Session

Once the day’s presentations are over, head over to this End-of-day Networking Session to keep the conversations going. You can share highlights from your favourite talks, pose questions you didn’t get a chance to ask during the day, connect with colleagues you haven’t seen in a while, and make some new connections too!
